Confusion
on the warmest day of the year to date saw two sides turn up to
play against Headley at their picturesque ground on top of the
North Downs. The outcome of some frenetic negotiation by the home
captain saw an agreement that the 3 teams would play a round robin
of 15 over a side matches.
Kings
were first up against the home side who had won the toss and elected
to bat first. Playing for the first time and opening the batting
for Headley was under-18 Middlesex player Page, and he took full
advantage of the short boundaries by plundering 22 off the first
over. This set the tone for the remainder of the innings as the
talented starlet put virtually all the Kings bowlers to the sword.
However, once again Kings were guilty of some dropped catches
and Page was given three lives in total. But nothing could be
taken away from a young talented player who had so much time on
a true track and who made the most of the short boundaries. When
he was finally dismissed, stumped by Smith (the keepers 100th
dismissal) off the bowling of Gale he had amassed 134. Kings stuck
gamely to their task in front of a sizeable crowd but could not
prevent Headley from posting a highly impressive 183 from their
15 overs. Kings made a very good attempt in their chase for the
runs. Some fine striking from Richard Warne and Gordon Young got
Kings off to a good start in maintaining the 12 run an over needed.
Yet Warne fell leg before, as did Joel Miah shortly after. Then
when Simon Pipe was caught at mid-off Kings were starting to struggle.
Yet Young and Jaemie Gale kept Kings in with a shout until Young
was bowled. Still Kings persevered and Gale and Mears got Kings
to 150 at the close of the innings

In the second match Kings were pitched against Jesters, who had
elected to bat first. This time there was to be no real concerns
for Kings, who led by a some excellent bowling from Simon Pipe
kept the scoring well in hand and reduced their opponents to a
less than par score of just 89. In reply some excellent batting
from Richard Warne and Dave Blissett set the platform for Kings
to get home with four overs to spare, Warne ending up 46 not out.

Having
played their two games Kings were able to enjoy a beer whilst
watching the last game between Headley and Jesters, which resulted
in a win for Headley after the star of the day Page struck two
massive sixes to seal the victory in the last over.
